If your water smells like rotten eggs, the cause depends on whether the odour is in your hot water, cold water, or both: Only Hot Water Smells Like Rotten Eggs: This is often caused by sulphur bacteria in your water heater. Both Hot and Cold Water Smell Like Rotten Eggs (Bore Water): If you are using bore water, hydrogen sulphide in the bore could be the cause.
